P.H.A.T. Tuesdays Presents…

P.H.A.T. Tuesdays is taking a bit of a breather. “Pearline”, the track that we’ve set up to stream above, is our last new track for a while. We’ve spent the last six weeks putting out a new song every week and, while it’s been fun, it’s also made for a very specific structure for our song writing.
We love what we’ve put out so far, but here’s the thing, we’re trying to make an album! The plan is to release an album’s worth of material in the next few months (under the absurd title of Me and Matty Pickles) and if we’re actually going to that then we want to let the rest of the songs that fill out our tracklist have the time and room to breathe and evolve and come from maybe a slightly different spot than the other tracks that we’ve put together. So, more dudebroman but also more variety, more voices.
So, that said, we’ll still be doing our P.H.A.T. Tuesday thing. We just may not have anything to show for it on a weekly basis. Hang with us and we’ll offer up fun sidetracks when we can (think Fall Out Boy covers). And let me say again…

P.H.A.T. Tuesdays Presents…

In which dudebroman and P.H.A.T. Tuesdays wishes Ashley Wagner a very Happy Birthday.
Actually, Ashley’s birthday was this past Sunday, January 30th. I was down in Philadelphia for the weekend long celebration and was given the full Boystown treatment: unmatched hospitality coupled with such a strong sense of encouragement to be yourself and enjoy life that you instantly feel like family. I thank her and her roommates for this weekend and every other that I spend in Philly and hope that this song is a suitable thank you.
“Paws Up”
She said, I’m tired of spinning plates / Of crossing wires and being late / Of jumping cars and don’t lie, I can see it in your eyes / You’ve lost it too, so either turn the screws or put your paws up, paws up tonight
She said, so send it skidding like a spinning top / and shake it up like a soda pop / set it off, and don’t meddle, let it settle as it might / we’ll need our hands to break our landing, so it’s paws up, paws up tonight
Next week: “Pearline”!

P.H.A.T. Tuesdays Presents…

It’s cold, it’s grey and it’s P.H.A.T. Tuesday. Hopefully our new song and bright cover art can be a bit of an escape; “My Little Ring” is up and streaming. Well, I say “new” but really, much like “Vamps Like Us”, this is an older song that we finally got around to finishing. And the surprising thing is, what we assumed would be a quick re-recording of a tune that we wrote over three years ago has become what I think is one of our must fully formed sounding songs. Go figure.
dudebroman hopes you like it and next week we hope to have a much newer song streaming: “Paws Up”. No promises though.

P.H.A.T. Tuesdays Presents…

Unfortunately, sometimes we are unable to the bear the fruit of a P.H.A.T. Tuesday until Wednesday… or technically Thursday morning. Ah well, when you’re burning the candle at both ends like the rockstar, retailing literature students that we happen to be, the Tuesday track ends up being posted a bit late.
But we did indeed have a P.H.A.T. Tuesday this week. Spread across multiple apartments and bars, we worked on a lot of things - the first of which is available to stream above. “Dead, Almost” is probably my favorite dudebroman song to date, mostly thanks to Matt letting us in on what has probably become my favorite song of his yet. I like to think that Frank and I didn’t completely ruin it.
Enjoy, and look forward to “My Little Ring” next week.

P.H.A.T. Tuesdays Presents…

For our second P.H.A.T. Tuesday, Matthew, Frank, and I offer up another new dudebroman song, “Vamps Like Us”. Well, it’s new insofar as we’ve finally finished it. “Vamps” is a song that we’ve slowly been piecing together for over two years, through multiple variations and structures and it felt great to finally listen to a final take this afternoon. It was written for Ashley Wagner, whom you can see on the cover art up there and the lyrics are as follows:
“We don’t like their ways / The shift, that shaft seems trite / And so we waste our days / ‘Cause vamps like us like night / And it may be just a phase / A stretch where we lost sight / But we keep taking strays / So vamps like us are alright”.
Matt and I also spent a large part of today working on another song that we’re very excited about, “Dead, Almost”. Expect that one either next week or the week after and for now we hope you enjoy “Vamps Like Us”.

P.H.A.T. TUESDAYS PRESENTS…

P.H.A.T. Tuesdays is a commitment made by Matthew Ryan, Frank Scerbo and myself to put time aside on a weekly basis to (try to) be creative. Like most good things, it was inspired by Kanye West. His G.O.O.D. Fridays series was a weekly MP3 release through the fall of 2010 where each week Kanye and some of his friends bunkered down in his Hawaii studio and recorded a new song. The weekly track was then offered up to his fans for free on his website every Friday night.
Motivated by that leverage of technology and coupled with a pun on the idea of Fat Tuesday (also known as Mardis Gras), P.H.A.T. Tuesdays is our version of Kanye’s idea. Wikipedia explains the origin of Fat Tuesday as follows: “[it is] the practice of the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season, which started on Ash Wednesday”. In other words, it was a social function for peasants to get all of the rowdy and gluttonous behaviors out of their system before being starved and repressed. Matt, Frank and I all work multiple jobs and take classes. We’re hoping that P.H.A.T. Tuesdays will provide a similar function for creativity. It will hopefully force us to continue to be creative and get the ideas that float through our heads during our 9 to 5s out of our noggins and into something real.
Our first offering is a new song from our band dudebroman. It is called “Motor Mouth” and we hope you enjoy it.
